An Innovative Method for the Extraction of Phenolic Compounds from Polygonum Cuspidatum
Keywords:
extraction, SCCO2, co-solvent, polygonum cuspidatumAbstract
Supercritical CO2 extraction of resveratrol, rutin, and quercetin from Polygonum cuspidatum was performed in laboratory scale extraction system with ethanol or water as co-solvent. In this work, the effect of operating parameters such as co-solvent concentration, pressure and temperature on extraction yield were investigated. Extraction were carried out at temperatures of 40-80oC, pressures of 10-40 MPa with a fixed CO2 flow rate (3 mL/min) and extraction time (3 h). The results showed that the presence of ethanol and water as co-solvent could enhance the solvent power or the selectivity of SCCO2 to extract resveratrol, rutin, and quercetin. The increasing concentration of ethanol and water affected the extraction yield of them. By changing the temperature and pressure, the vapor pressure enhancement of extractable compounds increase analyte solubility. This result revealed that SCCO2 extraction with co-solvent is applicable method for extraction of bioactive compounds of plant and may lead to an advanced plant biomass components extraction technology.References
