Abstract

The following paper describes a social phenomenon that is connoted as a significantly growing social problem: the deportation of individuals from the United States of America to Azores because they were not naturalized as citizens and committed a crime that, by law, can lead to a penalty, their deportation to their birthplace. This paper, based on a documental and bibliographic research about emigration and deportation, its procedures and consequences, aims to understand the reality and to support an empirical research where objective and subjective data have to be collected and analysed.
